Cast Iron

Description

Cast Iron

Cast irons, like steels, are essentially alloys of iron and carbon, but whereas the carbon content of steel is limited to a maximum of 2%, cast irons generally contain more than 2% carbon. To facilitate a better understanding of these materials, they can be divided into five groups, based on composition and metallurgical structure: white cast iron, malleable cast iron, grey cast iron, ductile cast iron and alloy cast iron.
